The following are the planes that Sluggo is qualified to work on.  These are also all the planes that American flies.  (American Eagle flies different planes, you can see them here)  American only flies  the Boeing Super-80, Boeing 737, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, and the Airbus A-300. The B777 and A300 are used mostly for International flying. Sluggo is currently a Domestic Purser so he does not fly the B777 or A300 too often.   Feel free to click on each name to see the plane.

I have been a frequent traveler since the early 90s. Flying around the country with various jobs, and airlines. I have always wanted to be a pilot, or flight crew member, but never thought it was possible. In the spring of 2000, and because of my interest in aviation, I decided to become a Flight Attendant.  I have been flying with American Airlines for over 6 years.  During those years, I have run into a lot of fearful flyers.  I often ask them why they are so terrified of flying, and it amazes me that they all fear of crashing.

Below, I have put some links to show the difference between air crashes and automobile crashes.  Air statistics go back to 1982, (my first remembrance of me flying) while car statistics only go back to 1994.  It is interesting to see the vast difference in fatal accidents between the two.  I watch people say a little prayer and touch the side of the plane each time they board....I wonder how many of those people do the same when they get into their car....or any car.  I can almost assure you, not very many of them do.  I bet if they saw the statistics below, they would start praying and blessing their cars a lot more!

Every year since 1994, there have been over 36,000 fatalities, per year, on US roads.  Since 1982, on US carriers alone, there have been only 2,803 fatalities....including events on 9/11.  So, why are people more fearful of flying than driving their cars or even crossing the street?  Flying is still the safest means of transportation around! Thought to ponder:  The number of deaths on US roads is equivalent to a FULLY-LOADED Boeing 737 crashing every day.

Traveling by air is much safer than walking down the street.  click on the link below to see statistics on the NTSB web site since 1982.
